UQ Skills, The University of Queensland’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO), has established an Agriculture Industry Advisory Committee to ensure its programs continue to meet the evolving needs of Queensland’s agricultural sector.
The inaugural meeting brought together respected industry leaders representing:
- Nindooinbah
- Bfeeders
- Australian Agricultural Company
- Skills Insight
- JBS Beef City
- Australian Country Choice
- Kennallywood Stud
- The Industry School
- Gympie State High School.
The session focused on livestock, the largest contributor to the Queensland’s economy.
Rod Morris, Industry Engagement Manager with UQ Skills, said the committee’s formation demonstrates a strong commitment to collaboration and responsiveness to industry.
“This committee provides a direct connection between UQ Skills and key agricultural employers and leaders across Queensland,” Mr Morris said.
“Their expertise helps us refine and strengthen the curriculum of our Diploma of Agriculture, Certificate III in Agriculture traineeship and all other agriculture programs and short courses we offer.
Mr Morris said the initiative is about more than consultation.
“This initiative is about creating a two-way partnership that delivers real outcomes.
“We’re not just talking and listening to industry, but most importantly, working alongside them to co-design training that reflects real-world practices, technologies, and challenges."
“When industry is involved in shaping what students learn, everyone benefits.
“It futureproofs our programs and ensures our graduates are equipped with career ready knowledge and skills to meet the challenges and opportunities of the sector.
“Beyond curriculum development, the committee also serves as a platform for cross-industry collaboration and knowledge sharing.
“By working closely with industry, we’re building a stronger, more capable agricultural sector to feed Queensland’s future.”
