When Jeffrey Pace enrolled in the Diploma of Agriculture at the start of 2025, he was searching for a pathway into a new industry.

With limited agricultural experience but a growing interest in the field, he chose the program to build the essential knowledge he knew would open doors.

“I didn’t have the biggest agricultural understanding when I first started,” Jeffrey said.

“But I knew this program would help me get the knowledge I needed to start my career.”

Now, with graduation only weeks away, that decision has already paid off.

Jeffrey has secured a full-time role as a Soil Technician with Douglas Partners, a job he credits directly to the skills he developed throughout the course.

“I got the job because of my foundational understanding of agriculture, and more specifically soil, from this course.

“I invested in my education to put myself in a better position than other applicants — and it paid off.

“The Diploma of Agriculture gave me the edge I needed in a competitive hiring process.”

For Jeffrey, the program’s blend of theory and practical learning made all the difference.

“The hands-on experience in soil has prepared me for my job.

“I can actually say I’ve done soil sampling and soil profiling, not just seen it on a screen.

“The whole point of this course is science and practice, and that’s why it works.”

To broaden his career opportunities, Jeffrey is also completing the Diploma of Agribusiness — just 4 additional units that will see him graduate with 2 diplomas.

“I’ve developed my skills in business management, workplace health and safety, and communication.

“Some of the skills I’ve learned helped me in my interview because employers are interested in more than technical knowledge; they want to know if you’ll be a good fit.”

For Jeffrey, studying with UQ Skills has reshaped his career trajectory.

“I’ve gained a job outcome in a career pathway I want. That’s huge!”
