First Nations Cultural Immersion Experience - details
Connect with Aboriginal Country, culture and community through a truly immersive experience grounded in the world’s oldest continuous living culture.
Embark on a 5 day journey across some of Queensland’s most significant landscapes including:
- The Bunya Mountains
- Hidden Vale in the Lockyer Valley
- Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)
- Nyanda at Nudgee, Magandjin.
First Nations Elders and community will share knowledge passed down from generations to help you understand the past and inform the future, providing insights that cannot be replicated in a classroom.
How you'll learn
This experience is offered over 5 days through an in-person camp.
Delivered by UQ Skills in partnership with Nyanda, an Aboriginal-owned ecotourism and cultural education organisation, the program provides an authentic, respectful and culturally grounded learning environment.
With all meals, accommodation, transport and activities included, this is a rare opportunity to build cultural capability, broaden your perspective and walk away with knowledge that will give you an authentic understanding of Australia’s rich and vibrant Indigenous cultural heritage.

You’ll engage with Aboriginal knowledge systems through hands-on experiences such as:
- Welcome to Country
- smoking ceremonies
- bush tucker and plant use walks
- weaving and cultural workshops
- koala and kangaroo safaris
- birdwatching and listening
- whale watching
- coastal exploration.
Each component is designed to deepen your understanding of cultural practices, environmental stewardship and the enduring connection between people and place.
