Learn how to think creatively and identify opportunities, conduct market research, find a good product-market fit, and develop strategic business plans.
You’ll also cover a range of core business skills in:

- financial and legal compliance.

Note: This program includes BSBESB402 Establish legal and risk management requirements of new business ventures, a unit which meets the managerial qualification requirements for anyone seeking a licence through the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.
How you'll learn
This program is delivered over 6 months through a combination of:
- online study (2.5 days per week)
- weekly workshops (Wednesday, 9am–3:30pm)
- in-person masterclass events at UQ's St Lucia campus.
An accelerated version of this program is available for people already working in industry, consisting of 8 hours of online study and 2 workshops per week (Tuesday and Thursday, 6–9pm). Contact us for details.
A version of this program is also available for students in high school.
Assessment
You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including written exams and reports, oral assessments and practical demonstrations.

This program can be run for workplace cohorts on request. Contact us for details. Minimum numbers are required to go ahead.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
An understanding of basic business and technology concepts, gained through previous training, qualifications and/or work experience in a business-related field would be an advantage.
All UQ Skills programs require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.
Accelerated model
If you are seeking to enrol in the accelerated version of this training, you must demonstrate you have at least three years of work experience in a business setting or be an operator of a small business for the past 12 months.
Recognition of Prior Learning
If you have recent work experience you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.
