Learn how to develop new food products from concept to labelling and packaging, with the Food Manufacturing Technology short course.
Tailored specifically for members of the food manufacturing sector, this course covers:
- core product development processes, including innovation, formulation, sensory and product evaluation, and regulatory compliance
- food preservation techniques to develop products with varying shelf life (including commercially sterile)
- implementation of process controls from scale-up to commercialisation.
How you'll learn
This program is offered over 8 weeks, through a combination of interactive online learning modules, face-to-face workshops and industry-based training (2 days).
Assessment
You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including written assessments, skills portfolios and practical demonstrations.
Start date
- March 2025
- September 2025
You must:
- be aged 18 years or over
- work in the food manufacturing sector
- have the support of your supervisor or employer
- hold a minimum of a Higher School Certificate (or equivalent).
The following groups are highly encouraged to apply as this training was designed with them in mind:
- junior technical staff or graduates developing skills and knowledge in product development and process control
- SME owners looking to develop skills and knowledge in commercialisation of a product from idea/small scale to commercial production/retail
- primary producers looking to value add or develop a new food product for market.
Recognition of Prior Learning
If you have recent work experience you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

Australia's Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) offers funded places in this course for people working in the food and beverage manufacturing industry.
You will need to contribute to the cost of your training through a co-contribution fee:
- Co-contribution fee (upfront, non-refundable): $150
- Full fee without funding: $1,580
