Graduate with the skills and knowledge to support a range of allied health professionals, such as dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and podiatrists.

  • understand and apply medical terminology in a variety of healthcare settings
  • work collaboratively in health and community service settings
  • prepare safe and nutritious meals

How you’ll learn

This program is delivered over 10 months (3 study blocks). Each study block is 3 months in duration.

You’ll complete this program through a combination of:

  • online study
  • monthly on-campus workshops (3-day blocks)
  • 120 hours of workplace experience in your final study block.

On campus workshops

This program includes monthly on-campus workshops where you’ll learn essential skills needed for the allied health sector.

If you live within 100km of Gatton or St Lucia, you’re required to attend these workshops in person. If you live more than 100km away and cannot attend the workshops in person, you will be required to have ongoing access to a suitable workplace where our trainers will teach and support you. Contact us for further details.

UQ has accommodation options for students travelling to Gatton:

  • UQ Gatton Motel: $121 per room/per night
  • Meals in dining hall: $15 per meal/per student.

Assessment

You will be assessed through practically focused written assessments, skills portfolios, online quizzes and practical demonstrations.

There are no formal entry requirements for this program.

All UQ Skills programs require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.

Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is an essential part of this program.

WIL is a placement you complete with an employer related to your field of study. This is your opportunity to put your skills into practice in a real workplace and gain experience for your resume to gain a head start upon graduation.

You’ll need access to a suitable workplace, as assessed by UQ Skills, before starting your first WIL block. This can be on an employed or volunteer basis to meet the vocational placement requirements and you will be provided guidance and support on how to engage with this process during your studies.

Vaccination requirements

As you'll be working in a healthcare setting as part of your learning, immunisations against the following are mandatory:

  • Pertussis (whooping cough): vaccination within last 10 years
  • Measles, mumps and rubella: 2 vaccinations or evidence of immunity to all 3 diseases
  • Varicella (chicken pox): 2 vaccinations or evidence of immunity
  • Hepatitis B: full age-appropriate vaccination or evidence of immunity
  • COVID-19: evidence of vaccinations is required for some programs and/or placements
  • Tuberculosis: TB self-assessment form and if required latent TB screening
  • Influenza: annual vaccination is strongly recommended during flu season (from April/May) and mandatory for some placements.

You'll need to provide evidence of immunisation before you commence your program.

If you fail to complete mandatory requirements, this may affect your ability to fulfil the inherent requirements of your program.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) testing

You’re required to complete a language, literacy and numeracy test as part of the enrolment process. This helps us identify and plan for any learning or support needs you may have before you start your training.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you have recent work experience you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

Create your USI

You must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can accept your enrolment.

Full fee: $4,600

Payment plans

You can pay for this program over 6 months, as part of a monthly payment plan. We’ll send you your first invoice after your start date. Payment plans incur a 10 per cent processing fee.

To achieve this qualification you must complete 14 units of competency over 10 months.
