Designed for teachers, early childhood and after school care workers, the Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting HLTAID012 course provides training in general first aid, with an in-depth focus on asthma and anaphylaxis management.

This nationally accredited course covers how to: 

  • manage common medical emergencies, such as vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, febrile seizures, strokes and diabetic emergencies
  • perform back blows and chest thrusts for a choking infant and child
  • understand medical action plans for allergies, anaphylaxis and asthma
  • administer (placebo) auto-injectors of the Epipen and Anapen for anaphylactic reactions and Ventolin with a spacer for asthma attacks
  • understand your legal duty of care and specific workplace requirements.

Blended delivery mode:

  • 5 hours of self-paced online study
  • face-to-face practical workshop

Varied delivery modes, such as face-to-face workshops or assessment only, are available for high schools and other stakeholder organisations. Contact us for details.

Assessment

You must complete the online course work and pass the quizzes at least 72 hours prior to the practical workshop.

Practical training dates

This program can be run at locations around Australia on request. Contact us for details. Locations require minimum numbers to go ahead.

A nationally accredited training course endorsed by the Australian Skills Quality authority.

The techniques you will learn are in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This course meets the nominated workplace first aider requirements under the Safe Work Australia First Aid Code of Practice.

The Code of Practice recommends you undertake refresher training in CPR annually and first aid qualifications every 3 years.

Entry requirements

You must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

We recommend being at least 16 years of age to participate in this course.

You must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can accept your enrolment.
