The IDCO program elevates experienced Doping Control Officers (DCO) to deliver in‑competition and out‑of‑competition testing to the highest standards of Code compliance.
You’ll refine team leadership, complex mission planning, and athlete‑centred communication, while learning workflows specific to international events.
Graduates achieve ITA certification and maintain currency via structured CPD and 2‑year recertification, a mark of professionalism recognised by anti‑doping organisations globally.
How you’ll learn
A blended pathway designed for practising officers:
- rigorous online learning (~20 hours) mapped to international standards
- assessment to validate knowledge
- a live virtual masterclass focused on real world scenarios.
Assessment
Online assessment (open book final exam) with formative assessment questions throughout the learning..
You must pass the exam to attend the live virtual training.
A Certificate of Completion is issued after attending the training. (Recertification every 2 years includes an online knowledge test and a professional practice self‑reflection.)

Nomination by your anti doping organisation and confirmation you:
- completed a DCO training program
- have 2+ years DCO experience
- completed 6+ testing missions in the last 12 months
- have experience with international level athletes
- are aged over 21
- proficient in English (both oral and written)
- have no criminal record and no history of any anti-doping rule violations.
All UQ Skills programs require access to a computer with a Windows operating system, up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a reliable internet connection.

This course does not include nationally recognised units of competency and does not lead to an AQF qualification.
It provides an industry‑recognised certification issued by the International Testing Agency (ITA) and is respected and recognised across the globe in the sports sector.
The program includes:
- 7 online courses with embedded knowledge checks to guide you step-by-step through procedures and decision making for compliant testing.
- A 40-question online, open book exam to confirm your readiness and unlock the live training component.
- A live virtual training session (typically 4 hours) using advanced scenarios, leadership, safeguarding and athlete-centred communication, to prepare you for major event missions.
- A comprehensive testing guide to support your learning and serve as a practical field reference once you’re on duty.
Ongoing learning continues after certification through an international forum and the 2 year recertification process.
