Learn how to safely use handheld and power tools in a workshop or onsite with the Introduction to Handheld Tools and Power Tools short course.

This ASQA-accredited qualification will give you foundation-level skills and knowledge to use handheld tools, power tools and fixed power tools for handheld operations in a range of general engineering applications.

You'll learn how to:

  • determine the job specifications, safety requirements and appropriate handheld tools and power tools needed for a task
  • select and operate handheld tools and power tools for general engineering applications
  • apply tool safety and maintenance practices for the use and storage of tools.

You'll complete online modules before attending a 2-day onsite practical workshop at UQ Gatton.

Assessment

Online quizzes and a skills portfolio assessment.

This program can be run for cohorts on request. Contact us for details. Minimum numbers required to go ahead.

You must have:

  • successfully completed Year 10, or equivalent
  • completed 3 prerequisite units within:
    • MEM11011 Undertake manual handling
    • MEM13015 Work safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
    • MEM16006 Organise and communicate information.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you have recent work experience you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

You must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can accept your enrolment.
